It’s Zombie time! Welcome to The Infects by Sean
Beaudoin. It hits shelves on September 25, 2012.
The Story- Nick lives with his good for nothing dad
and his younger, but autisticish sister Amanda. To earn a living he works at
the town’s chicken plant, butchering meat. A job his father previously held before retiring.
Nick gets into trouble and is sentenced by the court
to a stay at a teenage mountain camp. On the way there things get strange. By
the time Nick, now nicknamed Nero, wakes up on the mountain, his camp
counselors are eating each other. Running deeper into the woods with other teenage
survivors, Nick/Nero soon learns that more than just his counselors are after
him, and there is little hope.
(SPOILERS) Just when things seem to be over, men in
hazmat suits show up and rescue Nick/Nero, the remaining teenagers and the
zombies. That’s right, the zombies. Nick/Nero is taken to a secret lab where
the zombies are turned back into humans, minus several body parts, and Nick’s
girlfriend is held prisoner for her blood. Is the government involved? Is the
world coming to an end? Who can Nick trust?
My Thoughts- Now this is what a zombie book should
be- tension, gore and running. The first chapter of the book is a faux
beginning, which got an A+ in my world. Great opener. Then as the story
continues, you just can’t help but wonder, what the heck is going on? But there
is no time to answer, because the chase is quick. The reader thinks everything
is over when Bam! The author throws a curve ball and there are still 100 pages
left and a new plot point.
(Spoiler) I was unsure about the voice Nick hears in
his head- “The Rock”. Though funny, I just didn’t get how it got there in the
first place. Nick decides it was his dad- huh? His dad is a loser. And then there is the ending.
Can’t say I agree with the choice Nick makes, the world isn’t that bad.
Fighting the conspiracy seems more promising, but I guess teenagers make
drastic choices. It does set things up for a second book, if that is the
intention.
A fun loving zombie book full of action, conspiracy
and suspense.

Oooo! Creepy! Perfect for Halloween.
